SEND Offer
School SENCO: Joe Howard
At Elizabeth Selby Infant School, we are committed to ensuring that all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), are fully included, supported, and able to access all areas of school life.
We follow the SEND Code of Practice (2014) and ensure that children and parents are actively involved in all discussions and decisions relating to individual support and provision. The needs of each child are always at the centre of our planning and decision-making.
If you are worried about your child’s development or learning, please speak in the first instance to your child’s class teacher. They will be able to arrange a meeting with relevant staff, including the SENCO if appropriate.
We are committed to equality of opportunity and inclusion for all pupils. Our aim is to ensure that all learning is accessible, regardless of individual needs or disabilities. Children are encouraged to respect and support one another, and to value differences within our school community.

Sensory Room
Our sensory room provides a calm, safe, and stimulating environment designed to support children’s sensory development and emotional regulation. It includes a range of sensory experiences such as lights, colours, sounds, and soft play equipment, allowing children to explore and engage in a supportive setting tailored to their needs.

Specialist Classes
Elizabeth Selby Infant School proudly offers two specialist autism classes: Chestnut Class and Hazel Class.
In partnership with Phoenix School, we use the Phoenix Steps framework alongside the SCERTS Model to assess, support, and guide children’s progress.
- Chestnut Class supports children working between Steps 1–14 who are Social Partners.
- Hazel Class supports children working between Steps 15–24 who are Language Partners.
This structured pathway allows children to progress from Chestnut to Hazel Class where appropriate, ensuring continuity, consistency, and tailored support at every stage.
Both classes provide highly specialised teaching and intervention, including sensory stories, speech and language therapy, music therapy, sensory circuits, swimming therapy, and more.
With additional funding from Tower Hamlets and regular support from the Phoenix Outreach Team, we are able to maintain a high-quality, nurturing environment where children make strong and meaningful progress.
