Phonics
At Elizabeth Selby Infant School, we are proud of the progress our children make in phonics as they develop the essential skills needed for reading and writing.
Through our structured, daily phonics teaching programme, children are supported to recognise sounds, blend and segment words, and apply their knowledge confidently in their reading. This strong foundation enables children to become fluent and enthusiastic readers.
Our phonics provision is carefully designed to ensure that children are well prepared for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check and continue to build on their skills throughout Key Stage 1.
We track progress closely and provide targeted support where needed to ensure all children achieve their full potential in early reading.
