Early Learning for 2 Year Olds

At Elizabeth Selby Infant School, we believe that young children learn best through play and by following their own interests and fascinations. Our curriculum is rich, varied, and carefully planned to provide stimulating experiences that encourage curiosity, exploration, and early learning, both indoors and in our dedicated outdoor space for two-year-olds.

Our Seedling Class focuses on helping children become confident, independent learners who are able to make choices for themselves while developing a caring and respectful attitude towards others and their environment. We recognise the importance of consistency, and the regular routines, familiar adults, and stable peer group all play a key role in supporting children’s early development and wellbeing.

In Seedlings, staff place a strong emphasis on the prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage: communication and language, personal, social and emotional development, and physical development. These are developed through high-quality interactions during free-flow play as well as short, focused group sessions.
